VIGNETTES OF MENTAL HEALTH
NSW Mental Health Commission

Around half the people in Australia who identify as having a mental health issue do not seek help. One reason is that navigating the health system can be daunting.

The NSW Health Literacy Initiative is a world first. Recognised by the World Health Organisation, it aims to improve access to mental health services.

Much of the initiative involves teaching health workers to develop their listening skills.

These four films and one audio story feature composite characters, based on thousands of research hours. They represent people in the community who have typical mental health profiles.

Each character remains anonymous. Yet as they each reflect on their lives, their internal dialogue is telling.
