Erwin Blumenfeld's Experimental Fashion Films

One of our favourite sites for curating all things cool is NOWNESS.

This montage of Erwin Blumenfeld's experimental fashion films shows why. Blumenfeld was one of the original Dada artists before becoming a fashion photographer.

He brings together a range of techniques to create some remarkable imagery.

Photomontage? Check.

Colour slide projection? You bet your art school angst.

Textured glass?

Backwards action?

It's all there.

Curater Michel Mallard describes his legacy, "His work changed everything, creating a basis for culture today."

Shot between 1958 and 1964 and pitched to clients like Estée Lauder and Helena Rubinstein. It seems these films were a magnificent failure, deemed too avante garde for their time.

But in our eyes he created some amazing, cheeky and downright sexy images. Many a filmmaker today would be proud to create work like this.
