Samantha Lang and Carlotta impress at AACTA
We are so proud of our director Samantha Lang and her recent success at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.
In January 2015, AACTA recognised Lang and her TV movie Carlotta with five nominations and three wins.
Carlotta was nominated for Best Television Drama and Best Cinematography, alongside winning Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Supporting Actor.
The film follows the life of Australian transgender pioneer and Les Girls headliner “Carlotta” Spencer and her universal story of identity, family and tolerance. Check out the excerpt below.
“This film was a gift and a privilege to work on,” explained Lang.
“Not only was Richard Byron/Carol Spencer/Carlotta a social pioneer - she was also an extraordinary showgirl - she fought for the underdog and remained true to who she was and who she wanted to be. Her story provided a lethal combination of intense drama and visual splendour. What more can a director ask for?”
Check out what Best Supporting Actor Eamon Farren had to say about working with our Samantha:
“I was so proud that Carlotta was nominated for 5 prestigious AACTA awards," says Lang, "That was recognition enough of the incredible work of the cast and crew. To win three of the five was really the icing on the cake."
"I was especially excited for Eamon Farren, as supporting actor. He’s a relative newcomer and gave his role everything he had.”
Lang’s current projects include two more features. Night Games, a sports thriller based on the non-fiction award winning book of the same title, written by Anna Krien. And secondly, Faith, Hope & Sugar, a comedy about three Aussie women and their ill-fated romances.
